Deborah Rosica, Processing Specialist, Commercial Mortgage

Can you tell us about your experience working at Apex Commercial Capital and in the commercial mortgage industry?

“It's different than anything I had done in the sense that everything was securitized at companies I’ve worked for in the past. With our loans being held on the books, it gives us flexibility. It’s great that we can tailor things because we’re not working on cookie-cutter deals; each deal as a story.

My commercial real estate experience goes back to 1986. I actually worked on a large portfolio for the financing of Crystal City, as well as the World Trade Center.”

Tell us about your role and responsibilities as a processing specialist at Apex Commercial Capital.

“Before this year I was only doing processing – getting the loan ready to close and then closing it. Now, my focus is the front end with our Account Executives. Before it goes to underwriting, I review the file, I look for discrepancies within that file, so we have a cleaner delivery over to underwriting and a better overall picture of the transaction. It's proactive role. It's not a catch-all, because I’m not an underwriter, but it's enough to help deliver the package. I still process loans here and there, but it’s nice to be more involved in the transaction when involved from the very start.”

What is your favorite thing about your job?

I take pride in what I do, and I like to manage expectations.  Managing those expectations helps to build a sense of integrity and trust between you and the people you're working with. On an average deal, you're dealing with multiple people, so keeping everyone informed across the board is very, very important.

What would you say is your favorite thing about working at Apex Commercial Capital?

“I've been in commercial real estate since ‘86. In those early years, this was a predominantly male-dominated business. When I interviewed here, our top management was all women. That, to me, was very intriguing and swayed me to take the job. Seeing that progress and working for a company with women in leadership is amazing.

I also like the camaraderie here and the sense that the Green family takes care of their employees. The benefits are awesome. It's a neat culture here. I started my career at the Bank & Trust Co. of Old York Road, another family-owned bank, so it’s great to come back into that sort of environment.”

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?

“Photography, Sunday drives with my husband and whoever I can get to join us, and going to the beach. Most importantly, I love hanging out with my kids and their significant others and my grandchildren; will have 3 now and two on the way. That's what's most important to me.”
