Sometimes, all a commercial mortgage broker needs is a chance to explain their business in order to attract new referral sources and borrowers. If you have the chance to give a presentation about the services your company offers, here are some things you can do to ensure your presentation goes smoothly:

Keep it brief.

Shakespeare said it best: “Brevity is the soul of wit.” It’s also the key to a successful presentation. When speaking about your commercial mortgage services, you’ll want to discuss the basics of your business in a reasonable amount of time. Try to keep your presentation to about 30 minutes.

Speak in your voice.

This sounds like a no-brainer at first, but people often try to impress their audiences with an expansive (and sometimes incomprehensible) vocabulary. When you present, be sure to discuss commercial mortgages in a way that feels natural and easy-to-understand. Try to avoid jargon, particularly if you’re presenting to people outside the commercial mortgage industry.

Use visual aids.

Keeping your audience engaged is important, so it’s best to involve visual aids in your presentation. PowerPoint is the most widely-used presentation tool, and it’s a great way to explain your commercial mortgage brokering business. Be sure to keep text to a minimum by using condensed bullet points and consider using photos of properties you’ve funded in the past throughout.

There are very few people who can give an effective presentation without any preparation. While you might be confident in your knowledge of the commercial mortgage industry and your business, it’s best to do a couple of practice runs with people who will give you honest feedback on your presentation.

Giving a presentation is a great way to sell your services as a commercial mortgage broker. With a little practice, a well-constructed PowerPoint and a well-timed speech, you can educate potential referral sources and borrowers about your business. A successful presentation can bring in plenty of new clients and help your close more commercial mortgages.
